This is an email dated April 18, 2010 from Bud Silvers about TC1576.
Hello all;
A few days ago I received an email from a fellow TC owner. His name is Mike. How he found me is another story. In his email Mike said that he had just bought some papers on Ebay UK which pertained to my car. These include the original Guarantee. Mike put me in touch with Steve Haslop, the seller, who lives in Nottingham. Steve does not own a TC, and seems like a very nice guy. We have exchanged a few emails, which led to the following email received from the widow of a former owner of my car. Before all this I had no idea of my cars history prior to the early 1970’s. The following email fills in the years from 1952 to 1957. I was quite moved by this email, and felt that I should share it with all of you. Here is what she wrote:
Hello. My name is Brigid Mattinson and I am the widow of Neil Mattinson who was the proud owner of a TC registration DNR 635. I have you Email address from Steve Haslop who is my daughter's partner and has been in contact with you. Neil fell in love with the car and bought it in 1952 from a garage in Leicester. He paid £550, a lot of money in those days. His Godfather had left him some money so he could afford it. His father did not approve. We were both students at the same college and we did our courting in the MG. We went off on honey moon in it and had holidays all over the country. In 1954 we did a complete tour round Scotland. After our daughter was born in 1957 we had to sell as it was not big enough for all that a baby needs. The car was pale grey with red upholstry, very smart. I don't know if this was the original colour as the car was bought second hand. Neil fitted a grab handle on the dashboard for me, and a luggage rack that went over the spare wheel, then complained about the weight of my suitcase. It's good to know that the car is not on the scrap heap and is being well cared for. My daughter and Steve are coming for the weekend at the begining of May, so I will look out some old photos. Steve will know how to scan them and hopefully get them to you . I am a novice at computors and am still making mistakes with Email. The photos will be black and white as it's all a long time ago. Hope all this is of use to you. Regards, Brigid.
After reading the email, I began to think about all the lives that our cars have touched.
God bless, and have a great day!
Bud Silvers
